Welcome

0n May 13th, 2004, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed legislation that charged the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), with oversight from the Water Council, to develop the first Comprehensive Statewide Water Management Plan for Georgia. On June 28th, 2007, the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) submitted the Draft Comprehensive Statewide Water Management Plan to the Water Council. Comments were officially received through August 18th, 2007 and a revised draft water plan was submitted to the Water Council on September 13th, 2007.  After a series of public hearings and a 30 day comment period the Plan was revised and submitted to the Water Council on December 3rd, 2007.  The policies and practices outlined in both versions of the plan are designed so that the state’s water resources will be sustainably managed while supporting the state’s economy, protecting public health and natural systems, and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens of Georgia. We welcome you to the “virtual forum” in which the Water Council will receive public recommendations and comments as it finalizes the water management plan for Georgia. We hope you will join us and other interested parties in designing a water management plan that will guide the way toward a sustainable water future for Georgia.  Comments on the revised (December 5th, 2007) draft water plan will be accepted through December 12th, 2007.
